What an incredible start to the 2016 Whale Watching season we have had here at SpringTide! Sightings of Resident Killer Whales, Transient Killer Whales, and Humpback Whales have been more frequent than usual for this time of year. With so many beautiful days out on the water enjoying the stunning BC Coastline and abundant wildlife already, everyone is looking forward to the season ahead. Our fingers are all crossed that our luck continues throughout the summer months!
We would like to share with you some of our best photographs from January through April 2016. (Click on photos to enlarge)
Killer Whales (Orcas)
Already this year has been incredible for passengers having the opportunity to watch these majestic mammals in their natural habitats. We’ve seen a huge array of entertaining behaviours from the Killer Whales, from pectoral waves, to spyhops, tail slaps and everyone’s favourite, breaching! Here are a few of our favourite photos!
Humpback Whales
While Humpback season is not currently in full swing, we have already had some incredible shows from the Humpbacks who seem to love being playful and breaching for our passengers! In late April we even had the opportunity to view a mother and her calf breaching, tail slapping, and playing in the waters in the shining sun. Here are some pictures!
Other Wildlife: Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Otters and Eagles
With so many whales around, it is easy to forget about the incredible diversity of the marine wildlife surrounding Victoria. Here are some photos of other wildlife that we love including Steller Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Bald Eagles and other sea birds.
