This morning (approximately 1100) the SpringTide Crew became aware that there was activity in the Canadian Navy’s explosive detonation range in the area around Bentinck Island, an island located in the waters surrounding Victoria. We were also aware that the Resident L Pod, one of the endangered SRKW (Southern Resident Killer Whale) groups, was approaching Bentinck.
SpringTide contacted Navy personnel and they immediately arranged for the blasting to cease, allowing the whales to transit the area safely and soundly!
This is a prime example of the Navy showing a positive reaction to a situation requiring immediate action.
SpringTide would like to express our thanks for the courteous, responsive and positive approach taken by members of Victoria’s Canadian Defence Ministry.
